2004 Sutton Master Plan
Natural Resources Chapter
8/17/04 Meeting Minutes
7-9pm, Sutton Town Hall

In attendance: Laura Scott, Bill and Susan Uhl, Charles Forsberg, Jane Williamson, Leon
Malan, Iain Gilman, Betsy Forsham, Janet Haines, Phil Buteau, Chris Kane
Introductions were made and an overview of the timeline for the Natural Resources
Chapter was provided. 2 more Subcommittee meeting dates have been added and the
public hearing on the chapter has been moved back to accommodate the 2 additional
meetings.

3 New sections of the Chapter were reviewed – Slopes and Scenic Viewpoints, Flora and
Fauna, and Forests.

Slope and Scenic Viewpoints – It was decided that this section would be broken into 2
sections to reduce confusion. A 2-3 sentence description will be provided for each of the
22 key viewpoints for inclusion in the Chapter by Chris Kane. The slope and scenic
viewpoint map will be revised and reviewed again at the next meeting. The
recommendations were reviewed and edits were made.

Flora and Fauna – The group decided to add a subsection on invasive species. Look into
the work that NH Fish and Game has done on wildlife corridor mapping to see if the data
is useful for the Master Plan.

Forests – Need to clarify how the timber tax is assessed.

6 Previously sections that were reviewed at the last meeting were discussed –
Introduction, 1988 Master Plan – Natural Resource related topics, Community Survey,
Geology, Sand and Gravel Deposits, and Water Resources.

Introduction – No comments

1988 Master Plan – Will be moved to an Appendix (this will be done for all the Chapters)
Community Survey – Will be moved to own section of the Master Plan (this will be done
for all Chapters). The relevant survey results will be incorporated into the text of the
Chapters.

Geology – Remove the Surficial Geology subsection

Sand and Gravel Deposits – Need to clarify the process/authority for
approving/overseeing excavation operations in Sutton. The map will be revised and will
be presented at the next meeting for review.

Water Resources – Need to gather more information on the state of the surface water
bodies from Leslie Enroth hand include in the chapter.

Bill Uhl submitted some language to be reviewed and inserted, where appropriate, into
the Chapter. Betsy Forsham, on behalf of the Conservation Commission, submitted
material that might be of use in this Chapter. Chris Kane also submitted information on 2
wetlands studies/inventories that have been done in Sutton. These reports will be given
to the Conservation Commission when the Chapter has been completed.

An announcement was made about the August 24th Planning Board public hearings on the
Population and Economics Chapter, the Current Land Use Chapter, and the Housing
Chapter. All were encouraged to attend.
The next subcommittee meetings for this chapter are September 7th and September 27th.

The Planning Board public hearing for this chapter is scheduled for October 12th. All
meetings are at 7pm at the Town Hall.
