Sutton Police Department

The Sutton Police Department received a report of the theft of eight antique automobiles on May 24, 2008. These were taken sometime in October of 2007. The reporting party/victim Gary Kinney of Chelsmford Massachusetts has stored these vehicles in a barn on his property located in Sutton New Hampshire. As a result of an illness Mr. Kinney had not checked on his vehicles in almost 2 years.
The vehicles taken were a 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass convertible, 1971 Oldmobile 442 convertible, 1971 Ford Mustang convertible, 1968 Buick Skylark, 1932 Pontiac coupe, 1927 Model T, 1927 Flint and a 1957 MG in parts stored on a car haul trailer. The total value of all vehicles taken is approximately $125,000 to $130, 000.
Mr. Kinney had a long time friend who is a retired police sergeant from the Lowell Police Department, Mr. John Jason. Mr. Kinney had advised Mr. Jason of the theft, who in turn went on the internet and located one of the possible stolen vehicles on Craigslist. Mr. Jason gave Mr. Kinney a print out of that information; Mr. Kinney in turn gave that information to the Sutton Police Department and the investigators in this case.
Chief John Sims of the Sutton Police Department, Detective John Marasco of Troop D New Hampshire State Police, Heidi M. Jordan Senior Special Agent of the National Insurance Crime Bureau and Detective Marc Turner of the Epping PD were involved in a four week long intensive investigation, which resulted in the recovery of all stolen vehicles to include the trailer/car carrier.
As a result of the investigation, John W. Kopiec DOB 5/5/1947 of 14 West Eaton Grange Road Sutton New Hampshire was arrested on July 1, 2008 for eight Class A felony counts of Theft by Unauthorized Taking.
